MASON CITY - There will not be a community Thanksgiving meal hosted by a local church this year, but there are some options for the traditional meal.

Mason City Ministerial president Pastor Paul Nelson confirmed Thursday the church that would ordinarily offer the meal is not able to do so this year.

However, there will be other meals served, but not on Thanksgiving day.

The Community Kitchen of North Iowa will serve its annual Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 606 N. Monroe Ave., according to volunteer Ralph Wolf.

Thrivent Financial will also serve its annual Thanksgiving dinner for senior citizens, ages 55 and over, from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Senior Citizens Center, 326 Fourth St. N.E. The meal is co-sponsored by the Cerro Gordo Chapter 31131 of the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and the Senior Citizens Center.

I agree with Just_sayin, I would devote both money and time to help make this happen, and surely other Christian venues would make their parish halls available, if asked.

Is the issue lack of money for food, available space for the dinner, or lack of available cooks/servers/dishwashers? Asking because I'd like to help make it happen if possible. I'm sure there are others who feel the same way.
