MESERVEY | A man was arrested for domestic assault and child endangerment Sunday morning at a church in Meservey.
Ryan Lynn Pals, 42, Meservey, allegedly pinned his wife to the wall on the steps leading to the sanctuary of the First Reformed Church at 620 Second St. while placing his hand on her throat and applying pressure during an argument over child custody, according to the criminal complaint from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office.
The complaint states Pals' wife was holding their 7-year-old special needs child during the incident, "causing substantial mental and emotional stress to the child."
The incident took place at 10:30 a.m.
Pals was charged with domestic abuse assault (strangulation), a Class D felony, and child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor.
He was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail and later released. His next court appearance is set for Sept. 18.
A no-contact order was issued.
