OTTAWA, Illinois | A Mason City man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter by the LaSalle County State Attorney's office in Illinois.
According to court records, Mason Shannon, 43, was indicted by a grand jury on Sept. 26, along with Joseph Brewer, 21, of Ottawa.
The News Tribune in La Salle, Illinois, reported last month that both men were charged for their role in a physical altercation with Ottawa resident Michael Castelli, which occurred just before midnight on July 20 at Bonnie Plants, Inc. at 1932 North 35th Road in Ottawa.
Castelli, 32, later died at an Ottawa hospital, the News Tribune reported.
Cerro Gordo County Sheriff Kevin Pals told the Globe Gazette on Friday that Shannon was apprehended by local law enforcement Sept. 16. He was released Sept. 22, and later extradited to Illinois, he added.
According to court records, Shannon's trial is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2018.
