MASON CITY | Children and teens will explore all things science this summer at the Mason City Public Library's Summer Reading Program.
The program will run from June 9 to July 18. Online registration is now underway at www.mcpl.org. Registration at the Mason City Public Library Youth Services desk can take place any time after June 2.
Activities for children up to age 10 include weekly story times and book clubs, weekly contests, Craft Mornings, Theatre Thursdays and a scavenger hunt.
This summer’s performers for children are The Zoo Man, musician Hans Mayer, Mad Science of Iowa, magician Jeff Quinn and Iowa Public Television’s Dan Wardell.
Activities for ages 11 to 18 include Craft Evenings, Theatre Thursdays, Star Wars Day and a scavenger hunt.
This summer’s performers for teens will be The Science of Paranormal Investigation with Vicki of the Supernatural Research Society of Iowa, Mad Science of Iowa and magician Jeff Quinn. Teens will also be offered volunteering opportunities throughout the program.
Children and teens will keep track of their reading and earn prizes as they fill their reading logs. Participants that complete their reading logs before July 18 will be invited to attend a special Summer Reading Finale party at Roller City and will be entered into the grand prize drawing of their choice. This year’s prizes include several Samsung Galaxy tablets, LeapPad 2 tablets, microscopes, ant farms and more.
