GARNER — The owner of a Kanawha cleaning company has received a suspended sentence on a charge of first-degree theft after overcharging a client by more than $45,000.

Tammy Ann Leerar, 47, was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison, which was suspended. She was given five years probation and ordered to pay $45,529.89 in restitution.

Leerar owned Accent Cleaning in Kanawha.

Hancock County Attorney Karen Salic said Leerar overbilled a company called Apple Corp. which owns several Applebee’s restaurants in the Des Moines area.

The fraudulent billings allegedly occurred in 2008. The case was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
