CLEAR LAKE — The Surf Ballroom will host new performers and favorites from previous years at its Winter Dance Party Feb. 1-4.
Johnny Rivers will headline Saturday night’s finale concert while Lloyd Price — “Mr. Personality” — will be featured Thursday night. Also returning are the Friday night sock hop and Wednesday night Family Sock Hop.
Jeff Nicholas, Surf Ballroom president, said the entertainment lineup “promises to be another fantastic celebration of rock ‘n roll performances, friendships and history.”
“The Surf continues to search for and is pleased to welcome new performers to our legendary stage, and we are always delighted to welcome back longtime friends of the Surf and Winter Dance Party event,” Nicholas said.
Johnny Rogers History of Rock ‘n Roll Show will kick off the event Wednesday during the annual Winter Dance Party Family Sock Hop. Single tickets for this show will be $10 in advance in advance or $13 at the door.
Thursday night’s entertainment lineup features Lloyd Price (“Mr. Personality”), Jack Scott, and The Holy Rocka Rollaz, along with Tommy Allsup, the original guitarist on the 1959 Winter Dance Party Tour and who has performed at the annual event for 12 consecutive years. Price will be appearing for the first time, while Scott performed during the 1991 and 2004 events.
Friday evening’s Traditional Sock Hop will feature The Whitesidewalls, Orbison & The Everly Brothers Reimagined, The Del Shannon Show Starring James Popenhagen and the Tailfins.
Saturday evening’s lineup features Rivers, best known for his hits “Poor Side of Town,” “Baby I Need Your Lovin’” and “Memphis.” Others scheduled to appear are Albert Lee and Friends, and The Fireballs featuring Jimmy Gilmer and George Tomsco, who performed at previous Winter Dance Parties, along with newcomers Danny B. Harvey & Annie Marie Lewis performing rockabilly music.
