DES MOINES | Almost 1.1 million Iowans have been affected by the security breach of Equifax Inc., Attorney General Tom Miller announced Tuesday.
The breach, which impacted about 143 million consumers in the U.S., exposed personal information like social security numbers, birth dates addresses, and sometimes driver's license numbers and credit card numbers.
Nearly half of all Americans — as many as 143 million people — have had their sensitive info…
"Unfortunately, a criminal who gets a hold of this kind of personal information really hits the identity theft jackpot," Miller said in a statement. "And I’m concerned about the potential long-term impact this could have on countless consumers here in Iowa and across the country."
He encouraged all Iowans to see if the breach exposed their personal information. They should visit www.equifaxsecurity2017.com or call 866-447-7559 from 6 a.m.-midnight CST.
