MASON CITY — A fire at Golden Grain Energy, 1822 43rd St. S.W., started when fans were shut off prior to doing maintenance at the plant.

Mason City Fire Chief Bob Platts said the fans were shut off prematurely causing fires in the dryer and the boiler.

No one was injured.

Damage is estimated at less than $2,000, Platts said.

Firefighters were on the scene for about 90 minutes.

The fire was reported at 9:25 p.m. Monday.
