Semi in Floyd

The Floyd County Sheriff's Office says this semi, located in the middle top of this photo, lost control Monday on a bridge on the Avenue of the Saints. It slid off the road and traveled hundreds of feet before coming to rest in a farm field.

Floyd County Sheriff's Office is advising drivers to slow down and drive carefully after Sunday's storm, as road conditions continue to be treacherous.

The sheriff's office posted a photo of an out-of-state semi driver who lost control Monday morning on the Avenue of the Saints bridge over Highway 14. The truck slid down an embankment, through trees and across a neighboring field in rural Charles City, officials said.

The driver was not injured, despite the semi having traveled hundreds of feet from the roadway.

Floyd County roads -- like many in North Iowa -- were 100 percent snow-covered Monday morning. The Avenue of the Saints was 50 to 75 percent snow and ice, according to the sheriff's office, which responded to several crashes throughout the day.

Blowing snow can cause slick spots on the road and significantly reduced visibility.
