ROCK FALLS | The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff is asking people to be vigilant and report suspicious activity after a reported incident Monday in Rock Falls.
A 14-year-old boy in Rock Falls said a male and female pulled up to him in a pale blue or silver van. The couple, reported to be in their 60s or 70s, asked the boy if he wanted to come help out at a church.
The boy said no and told his mother about the incident. The mother then reported it to the sheriff's department.
A Facebook post from the boy's mother, copy and pasted, was shared many times locally, drawing attention to the incident.
In the post, she claimed the couple also offered the boy money to come with them.
No other description of the couple was available, according to Sheriff Pals.
"Obviously, anyone who's approached by strangers, trust your gut and report it," Pals said. "The sooner it's reported, the better."
The incident was reported about 4 p.m.
Pals said this is the only reported incident of it's kind so far, and he hopes it's the only one.
"We're all hoping it's innocent," Pals said. "We can't assume that though."
