MASON CITY | A Mason City man was arrested early Friday morning after a traffic stop for drugs and possession a firearm as a felon.
James Durel Brown, 38, is charged with felony possession of a firearm as a felon, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, marijuana – third or subsequent offense and failure to have a valid license or permit.
Brown was stopped about 2:37 a.m. Friday on the 500 block of North Madison Avenue in Mason City. During a search, Brown was in possession of a baggy containing suspected marijuana.
According to court documents, Brown also admitted to having marijuana in his possession.
Officers found a silver colored .32-caliber savage pistol under the passenger seat of his vehicle.
“Brown said that his finger prints would be found on the firearm if tested,” the criminal complaint said.
Brown is held in the Cerro Gordo County jail on a $5,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse.
