MASON CITY | A Mason City man has been arrested on drug charges and for violation of pretrial release for a pending drug case in Cerro Gordo County.
Derrick Scott Winters, 30, of Mason City was arrested at the Ashley Inn Nov. 5 for possession of a controlled substance, marijuana — third or subsequent offense.
According to court documents, Winters was in possession of a bag containing marijuana. Winters has two previous convictions, one in Floyd County in August and another in Cerro Gordo County in May 2008.
A preliminary hearing was held Thursday in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
This offense was in violation of pretrial release for two other charges on Oct. 3.
Winters was listed as homeless in the criminal complaint in October.
At 12:26 a.m. on Oct. 3, Winters was pulled over in a traffic stop, driving a turquoise 1994 Pontiac Sunbird on 15th Street Northeast in Mason City.
According to court documents, Winters was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. He was charged with possession of marijuana — second offense and possession of methamphetamine — second offense.
Winters’ arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 21 at the Law Enforcement Complex for the Oct. 3 charges.
Winters is held in Cerro Gordo County Jail on $12,000 bond.
