MASON CITY | A Mason City man was arrested Wednesday on a felony willful injury charge after hitting a man with a car in an alley in December, police say.
Jacob Matthew Mills, 24, first observed the man walking north down an alley near the 1300 block of North Federal Avenue before striking him with a vehicle about 9:35 p.m. Dec. 23, 2017, court documents said.
Police wrote in charging documents Mill drove the vehicle towards the man, who was walking on the west side of the alley, then crossed over in his path to hit the man with the front of his car.
While the vehicle was in motion, Mills allegedly opened the drivers' side door, striking the man, before continuing north down the alley, court documents said.
The man sustained a bleeding cut near his eye, loose teeth and other injuries, according to court documents.
A nationwide warrant was issued for Mills’ arrest Dec. 29. He was arrested Wednesday and is being held in the Cerro Gordo County jail on a $5,000 bond.
Mills is scheduled to appear in Cerro Gordo County District Court Feb. 16.
