MASON CITY | A Mason City man has been arrested on drug charges, possession of a firearm as a felon and theft after getting pulled over in a stolen property investigation.

Jose Santos Najera, 36, was pulled over about 10:25 p.m. Nov. 24 on the 200 block of Fourth Street Northeast by Cerro Gordo County deputies in relation to a stolen property investigation, court documents said.

Inside the vehicle, deputies found marijuana and a digital scale that was located in a draw string bag Najera was wearing when first stopped. Najera's ID was also in the bag. Alprazolam was in the console next to a loaded firearm.

He was charged with:

  • Dominion/control of a firearm by a felon
  • Possession of a controlled substance, marijuana - third or subsequent offense
  • Possession of a controlled substance, alprazolam - third or subsequent offense
