BUFFALO CENTER | A former Buffalo Center man has been charged with sexually assaulting a child.
Williams Eugene Whytus, 38, who now lives in Fort Dodge, was arrested there Wednesday on a Winnebago County warrant for felony third-degree sexual abuse, according to court documents. In Iowa law, rape and sexual assault are charged as "sexual abuse."
Whytus is accused of performing a sex act on a child between the ages of 12 and 13, court documents say.
The alleged abuse took place between Oct. 1, 2014, and May 31, 2015, according to the Buffalo Center Police Department criminal complaint.
The arrest warrant was issued Feb. 1.
Whytus remained in the Winnebago County Jail Friday on $10,000 cash or surety bond. His preliminary hearing is set for March 2.
