FOREST CITY | A Forest City man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly hitting and choking a known woman and threatening to kill her with a knife.
Elgin S. Richmond, 36, faces felony charges of domestic abuse assault by strangulation and third-offense domestic abuse assault.
Richmond is accused of attacking the woman at a residence in the 100 block of College Drive in Forest City, police said in a news release, striking her in the nose, strangling her, holding a knife to her throat and threatening to take her life.
Police said Richmond escaped out the door with the knife but was located a short time later. After being placed in the back of a Forest City squad car, he attempted to kick out the windows, according to police.
Richmond was transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail, police said, as the Winnebago County Jail was unable to take him.
He has been released from custody under the supervision of the Department of Correctional Services and has preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 22.
