CLEAR LAKE | A Clear Lake police officer was injured early Friday morning while attempting to stop a fight at the Pilot Travel Center.
The Clear Lake Police Department said in a news release Officers Zach Hall and Tory Reimann were dispatched to the travel center’s parking lot at 2:10 a.m. to assist a commercial bus driver with escorting three allegedly intoxicated passengers from the vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers located the individuals and asked them to exit, the police department said. As they were getting off the bus, two men began to fight with each other.
Reimann sustained a serious leg injury while attempting to break up the fight and was transported to Mercy Medical Center—North Iowa.
Reimann was released from the hospital later Friday morning and should make a full recovery, Chief Pete Roth said in a statement.
Hall was not injured.
Jerry Allen Farmer, 31; J. Patrick Keenan, 53, both of Saint Paul, Minnesota; and James A. Douglas, 35, of Youngstown, Ohio, were arrested and charged with misdemeanor public intoxication.
Douglas was also charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
The three men were transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail. They have since been released on bond.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Mason City Police Department and Clear Lake Fire Department provided assistance.
