Christmas Dinner

Gene Beller, of Mason City, serves homemade pie at the Mason City Ecumenical Community Christmas Dinner at Holy Family Church last year.

MASON CITY | The 2017 Mason City Ecumenical Community Christmas Dinner will be held this year at Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church, 340 20th St. S.W.

The annual dinner has been held for decades, offering a place to go for those in need of food and companionship on Christmas Day.

The free meal will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will consist of turkey, ham, potatoes and gravy, cole slaw, green beans, apple sauce, dinner roll, pie, coffee, water and lemonade.

The location of the dinner rotates from year to year among many Mason City churches, including St. James Lutheran, First Covenant, Holy Family, Trinity Lutheran, Wesley United Methodist, First Presbyterian and St. John's Episcopal.

Typically, the event draws large numbers of people who come to the church to enjoy the meal and the fellowship. Part of the tradition is volunteers from other churches who come to help out in any way they can.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Those needing shut-in service are asked to call Kariann Brown by noon on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 641-420-6867.

People interested in volunteering are asked to call Ilene Brown at 641-583-0261.
