MASON CITY | Cerro Gordo County supervisors helped county residents prepare for upcoming celebrations with a series of actions Tuesday morning.

They approved five-day, Class B beer permits for Backpocket Brewing and the Columbia Club and a five-day Class C liquor license for Iowa Beer Bus, all in conjunction with the RAGBRAI stopover in Clear Lake next month.

Also, fireworks permits were approved for Gerald Ericson, Jack Sutcliffe, Chris Sokol and Andy and Laura Oppermann in connection with the Fourth of July holiday next week.

In other business, supervisors approved a contract for $34,000 to Midwest Acutech LLC to move an underground fiber line about a half-block in the area near the Alliant substation near Hardee's restaurant.

The work is part of the Iowa Department of Transportation's planned relocation of part of Highway 122 in the downtown area.

The action was first brought up at the supervisors' June 20 meeting but was put off a week until other bids were sought. One other bid received was much higher than that of Midwest Acutech, according to Ken Bails, information technology director.
