MASON CITY | Cerro Gordo County supervisors on Tuesday approved an ordinance creating an urban revitalization area near the Law Enforcement Center on Kingbird Avenue.

By creating the district, Country Meadow Assisted Living and Memory Care Community is eligible for tax abatements to help offset its portion of a road assessment for paving Kingbird Avenue.

Country Meadow is on the site of the former Willow Point Assisted Living and, before that, the Cerro Gordo County Home. It opened in 2014 and is about the only business in the area, and therefore took the full brunt of the assessment, county officials said.

Supervisors approved creation of the district earlier this year and authorized the North Iowa Area Council of Governments to prepare a formal urban revitalization plan — the plan approved by supervisors Tuesday.
