CHARLES CITY | A Charles City woman has received a suspended prison sentence for obtaining prescription drugs by fraudulent means.

Aranda Jo Cowell, 34, was sentenced Monday in Floyd County District Court to 10 years in prison each on two counts of prohibited acts, a Class C felony.

The sentences, which are to be served concurrently, were suspended and she was put on probation for three years.

She also was given a $1,000 suspended fine on each count.

Cowell pleaded guilty in May.

Cowell was arrested in November 2014 on a warrant.

In 2013 Cowell used fraudulent record keeping to obtain prescription medications, including those containing morphine and hydrocodone, prescribed to others, according to court records.

She also called the Hy-Vee Pharmacy in Charles City and used the identity of another to obtain a refill on a prescription for pills containing hydrocodone, court records state.
