MASON CITY — A case against a Mason City postal worker charged with fifth-degree theft has been dismissed after the state’s witness failed to show for trial.

Julie A. Salisbury, 44, Nora Springs, worked as a clerk at the Mason City Post Office for five years. She had been accused of allegedly stealing Victoria’s Secret gift cards that were to be mailed to area residents.

According to court documents, a state witness failed to appear at the trial on March 19 in Cerro Gordo County District Court and the charge was subsequently dismissed.

The U.S. Postal Service was alerted late last year when Victoria’s Secret reported that one person had redeemed a large number of gift cards that were intended to be mailed to people throughout North Iowa.

Richard Watkins, a spokesman for the Postal Service, said co-workers at the Post Office reported seeing several gift cards in Salisbury’s purse.

Salisbury is no longer employed by the U.S. Postal Service, according to Watkins.
