ALDEN — Victoria Westfall, 17, of Alden, died Tuesday after a two-vehicle accident at Hardin Street and C Avenue about 5 miles northwest of Alden in Hardin County, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Westfall was eastbound on Hardin Street at about 7:42 a.m. when her 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix collided with a southbound 2002 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Marlo White, 57, Alden.

The collision occurred on a gravel road at an intersection which is uncontrolled for all but northbound traffic.

White’s vehicle hit the side of Westfall’s vehicle and both came to rest in the southeast ditch, the State Patrol said.

White, who was injured, was transported by ambulance to Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Westfall was transported by air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City and then to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, where she died.

The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Hardin and Franklin county sheriff’s departments.

The accident is under investigation.
