DES MOINES (AP) — Authorities say the co-owner of a store and his friend have captured an armed man who robbed the Des Moines store.
The man wearing a face mask and sunglasses walked in to Fortune Gifts. He displayed and cocked a gun, then left after store co-owner Zamir Azam gave him some cash.
Police say Azam’s friend, Joe Lipichok, ran out of the store and tackled the robber. Azam soon joined Lipichok in struggling for the man’s gun. It fired but no one was wounded.
Azam and Lipichok held the man for police.
He was identified as 18-year-old Jacob Nielsen. He remained in Polk County Jail on Wednesday, pending $25,000 bail on a robbery charge. Online court records don’t yet list the case.
