A Walcott woman is facing child endangerment charges alleging she shook a 6-month-old child hard enough to cause brain bleeding, police said.
Rachel Elizabeth Steahr, 18, is charged with two counts of felony child endangerment resulting in serious injury.
According to the arrest affidavit filed by Walcott police, Steahr is alleged to have placed a 6-month-old child in a bouncer seat and shook “the seat with enough force to cause intracranial bleeding, stroke, blindness and brain damage.”
Hospital CT scans revealed the victim had evidence of head traumas from several occasions “consistent with multiple abusive shakings over a prolonged period of time,” according to the arrest affidavit.
Steahr was arrested Monday and booked into the Scott County Jail at 9:35 p.m. She was being held Tuesday night on a $10,000 cash-only bond.
A preliminary hearing on the case is scheduled for Dec. 14 in Scott County District Court.
