ST. ANSGAR | A very young St. Ansgar girls basketball team went 4-18 during the 2016-17 season. The team hopes the season of experience shows up in the win-loss column this season.
Under the basket, the Saints will have Elizabeth Jenkins, a busy and disruptive presence during a junior campaign, when she blocked 155 shots and pulled down 241 rebounds. Jenkins averaged 11.6 points a game.
Also back is Jadyn Anderson, a junior. Anderson averaged 13.7 points a game — a team high — during 2016-17. She also drained 34 3-pointers and dished out 42 assists. Anderson led the team with 73 steals.
Jenkins and Anderson were selected to the Top of Iowa Conference-East honors squad last season.

Tanyon Schutjer, now a junior, was second on the team in rebounds with a 149, 61 of those on offense. She dished out 28 assists.
The Saints opened their season on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Riceville. They return to action Tuesday, Nov. 28, in Manly against Central Springs. St. Ansgar opens its home schedule on Tuesday, Dec. 5, against Osage.
