St. Ansgar dominated Newman Catholic 44-0 to move to a 7-0 record on Friday night.
The Saints racked up 481 yards of total offense while holding the Knights to 163 yards. Under the pouring rain, St. Ansgar didn't attempt a passing game, running the ball 54 times for 481 yards while limiting the Knights to 94 yards rushing and 69 yards passing.
Senior Dayton Smith topped the charts with 204 yards rushing, including two touchdowns. Senior Josh Van Vliet and sophomore Jack Sievert also took turns. Van Vliet finished the night with 110 yards and one touchdown and Sievert with 63 yards and one touchdown. Junior Collin Kramer added 62 yards and one touchdown. The Saints held a halftime lead of 30-0.
Smith led the team with 11 tackles on defense. Sophomore Adam Williams and junior Ethan Kirchgatter each had an interception. Senior Devan Hackenmiller recovered a fumble.
The Saints will travel to Britt to play West Hancock on Friday, October 13 at 7 p.m. to battle for the district title. Both teams are undefeated in district.
