A few months before turning seven years old, the final loan payment was made for the CRC construction loan. What an accomplishment for this community. The CRC has changed Mitchell County and changed lives of our community.

The year 2017 brought an end to Steve Cooper’s term on the CRC Board of Directors. Steve served as President of the CRC Board and before that as Chairman of the CRC Steering Committee. With his guidance the CRC has become a very successful facility in northeast Iowa. Steve was the last original board member on the CRC Board of Directors.

The year also brought an end to the Prairie Lakes Church lease with the CRC. It has been exciting to watch their church grow over the years and now have a church home of their own. What a blessing their partnership has been to the CRC. The CRC helped give them a place to begin in Osage and their financial support through rent helped the CRC get established the first several years. Now it is time for both CRC and PLC to grow; both entities are now able to expand and offer more to the community.

A perfect example is the launch of the Cedar Summerstock Theater Company last summer. Having four professional productions in the Krapek Family Fine Arts Center in eight weeks was awesome. We are excited to announce they will be back this coming summer with four more productions.

The CRC ended 2017 with 795 memberships and 1873 members from 23 zip codes. In 2017 we had 174 new memberships and 147 memberships cancelled. We have 96 businesses participating in our business membership opportunity. We also continue to offer scholarship membership opportunities to those who qualify.

After six months into our fiscal year, our income is up $13,331 over last year and our expenses are down $232. Things continue to move in the right direction.

As we look forward to 2018, we are excited to announce the CRC will be hosting the 1st Annual Main to Main Marathon for Saturday, August 25.

The new year always brings resolutions, goals and promises. The CRC sees many new memberships and record number of people at the beginning of each year. One of our goals as a staff is to keep this January trend last throughout the year. Our desire is to help keep the community healthy, fit and happy. I would love to challenge everyone to try a new class or program, join us for a free lunch and learn, start training for the marathon, sign up for one of our fitness challenges, come walk around the track or just stop by for a cup of coffee.

Let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns or ideas. I would love to hear from you anytime.
