The Chamber’s executive board has recently been working on revising our strategic plan for the next 3 years. We met every week for about 8 weeks for 1-2 hours discussing the future of the Osage Chamber of Commerce.
The common theme that always arose was how we provide value to our members and showing other businesses the value in membership with the Chamber. Although we’ve been here for over 80 years, many businesses don’t feel we have something that could benefit them.
On the contrary, the Chamber has something for everyone. Whether you’re a one-person operation, non-profit or civic organization or manage hundreds of employees, the Chamber benefits your business and you may not even realize it. Most organizations hold events or host promotions – we help promote those!
Our ‘welcome program’ is a huge advantage – you are included in a bag to a new resident to Osage. Our members have the opportunity to submit whatever they wish to go into these bags that the Chamber provides and delivers. Think about if you were moving to a new place: Where do I get my hair and nails done? Where do I get my oil changed? I need electrical work done in my home – who should I use? In a research study completed by the Schapiro Group in 2014, when a consumer knows a small business is a member of their local chamber of commerce they are 80% more likely to purchase goods or services from that company in the future!
Another major benefit is the use of Chamber bucks! We distribute these throughout the year – we sold over $10,000 just July to December this year. That also does not include what bucks the Chamber donates to businesses and individuals throughout the year. Businesses that choose to join the Chamber can accept those dollars at their business for payment.
Throughout the year, the Chamber places advertisements radio and print up to 60 miles outside of our area. These advertisements are necessary to help bring people to our area. If we have someone coming to town for an event and then they shop at 3 more stores than they normally would have, then those advertisements are proving successful. In order for us to continue to do this, we require support and participation from businesses within our community.
Ultimately our goal is to promote, support and protect Osage business. If you feel as passionately about our business climate as I do, contact me about how you can help.
