Greetings from the Osage Education Foundation (OEF).

The OEF board of directors wants to keep our alumni and friends apprised of recent and upcoming events and the timelines for those events.

Our biggest project took place in December when we, along with an amazing group of volunteers, assembled and mailed over 4,600 OEF newsletters to alumni and friends. We receive a lot of compliments on the look and layout of our newsletter; and for that, we offer a public thank you to our designer, Cindy Tolliver.

If you are not receiving the newsletter, it is because we don’t have a correct address for you. If you wish to update your address or tell us you prefer to receive the newsletter by email, please send your information to OEFalumni@gmail.com . This email can also be used if you wish to publicize your class reunion; just send the date, time and venue. You may read past and present newsletters online on the OEF website: https://sites.google.com/view/oefalumni.

As the new year has begun, the foundation is busy setting various dates and timelines for its activities.

Our main event is always our Distinguished Alumni Awards and Reception. We have held this event in the spring or summer for many years. This year, we will try something new. We are going to hold the distinguished alumni event during Homecoming weekend.

All Distinguished Alumni awardees, past and present, will have the opportunity to ride in the Homecoming parade and be recognized at halftime of the football game.

Unfortunately, we won’t have a firm date for the event until March, when the football game schedules are announced; right now we only know it will be sometime in mid-September to mid-October. As soon as we learn that date, we will get it out to everyone via newspaper, website and Facebook.

The foundation still wants all Distinguished Alumni nominations to be made by March 1 this year. The award recipients are chosen by a group of citizens independent of the Osage Education Foundation. If you have been thinking of a classmate, who deserves this award, we urge you to nominate him or her.

The nomination process is not complicated and can be completed fairly quickly. Please go to the OEF website (address in paragraph above) to begin the process. We know Osage Schools have produced some amazing alums and we want to hear about them—so please nominate.

Other duties of the foundation, at this time of year, include teacher grants and student scholarships.

The OEF determines how much of its Enhancement fund can be used for grants to teachers. The teachers write applications for the grants, which are used for enhancements in their classrooms and/or students’ learning experiences that are not covered in the school budget.

A committee made up of Superintendent Schwamman and two OEF board members will choose the grant recipients and announce the winners in April. Another committee of foundation board members reviews student scholarship applications in April and awards the ones sponsored by the OEF at Senior Awards night in May.

Whether you are an Osage alum and/or a supporter of all things Osage, please visit our website and like our Facebook page (Osage Education Foundation) to learn about everything going on at the Osage Education Foundation.

We appreciate your interest and your support.
