Merlene Rogers, age 82, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Jack and Engrid Meng Hospice Residence in De Pere, Wisconsin.
Merlene was born on July 1, 1935 in Osage, Iowa to Hans and Mabel Peterson. She graduated from Osage High School in 1953 and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was the church organist at First Baptist Church in Osage for 27 years. She was an accompanist at the Osage Schools and also played for local weddings and funerals. She worked at Millard's Jack and Jill for many years and served on the Osage City Council. Merlene also worked for United Church Directories, traveling throughout a multi-state territory, before moving to Topeka, Kansas in 1992.
Merlene was a member for First Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. She worked as an Executive Assistant at Schendel Pest Services in Topeka until her retirement in 2007. Following retirement, Merlene occupied her time by volunteering, sharing her musical talent with others and playing Bridge. She moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin in the fall of 2016.
Merlene was preceded in death by a sister, Theone Peterson, and a half-brother, Erwin Peterson. She was also preceded in death by both of her sons, Marc Rogers and Bryan Rogers. Merlene is survived by her daughter, Laurel (Wayne) Richter of Green Bay, Wisconsin, daughter-in-law, Renata Rogers of Mason City, Iowa, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A family graveside service will take place in Osage, Iowa at a later time. The family wishes to thank Unity Hospice for their wonderful care.
