OSAGE | The first baby of the new year reported to the Mitchell County Press-News belongs to Nathan and Stephanie Kinter, Riceville.
Their son, Damian John Kinter, was born at 5:12 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4 in Rochester, Minnesota at the Mayo Clinic Hospital.
The little fellow came into the world weighing 9 pounds, 2 ounces and measuring 21 inches long.
His parents chose the name, Damian, based on Nathan liking the name.
"It's a different name, you don't hear that often," Stephanie said. "I didn't have any boys' names picked out, and I didn't mind the name."
Stephanie said her pregnancy went well.
"I felt good throughout the nine months," she said.
"I didn't have any morning sickness or any weird cravings. Delivery also went well with no complications.
"We went to the hospital on my due date, Jan. 3. We talked about how it would be neat for him to be born on his due date. Unfortunately, it didn't work out in our favor, as he was born the next morning.
"We were also surprised by his weight. The midwives we're guessing around 8 pounds, so when the nurse weighed him after he was born, I think I asked her twice to make sure I heard her right."
Nathan added, "It's been a change having a baby in the house."
"We are getting used to the roles as mom and dad and taking turns with the baby duties," Stephanie said. "He's a pretty good baby. He sleeps on and off during the day and up every few hours at night.
"He only really cries when he is hungry or needs a diaper change, which he doesn't quite like yet, but getting used to."
Stephanie added Damian likes listening to music. "We have gotten some smiles out of him already."
"We are excited to watch him grow into his own personality," Nathan said. "We are still trying to figure out who he looks like. His looks seems to change everyday."
The couple received gifts provided by several local businesses and organizations.
