OSAGE | The Mitchell County Learning Connection will begin the winter set of Learning Connection classes the first week in January.
Families have two class times from which to choose - Marvelous Mondays is an evening class that meets at the St. Ansgar Elementary School from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 8, 15, 22, 29, Feb. 5 and 12.
Thrilling Thursdays is also an evening class that meets from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary in Osage on Jan. 4, 11, 18, 25, Feb. 1 and 15.
The Learning Connection is an education and support program for families with young children who are not yet in kindergarten. Weekly classes are available for parents to attend with their children.
During the Learning Connection classes, parents and children work together on age-appropriate activities that offer children opportunities that promote self-esteem and self-awareness through educational activities in the areas of art, music & movement, science, math and early literacy.
Parents work with their children for the first half of the class, and during the second half of the class, enjoy conversations about child development, building positive family interactions, discipline and guidance, parental stress, and other topics parents deem helpful.
Due to a grant from the Floyd, Mitchell and Chickasaw Empowerment and PCA Iowa, all Learning Connection classes and events are free of charge, and all families with young children are welcome to attend the weekly classes. No pre-registration required.
If school is canceled or dismisses early due to bad weather, the Learning Connection classes will cancel.
