OSAGE | How much time does it take to prepare healthy, nutritious snacks? The kids of Mitchell County now know.
Throughout the summer, children from across Mitchell County have been exploring the ins and outs of healthy food preparation at the Kids in the Kitchen workshop held by Iowa State Extension and Outreach office.
At the workshop, kids learned about germs, basic food safety, and taste tested their work. Everyone received a recipe packet to replicate the foods for their own families. The colorful kitchen equipment was purchased with a generous grant from Ag Ventures Alliance, Mason City.
On Thursday, June 22, 2017,19 kindergarten and first graders participated in the day camp. Those attending were Ally Aschenbrenner, Evan Bremer, Olivia Chapman, Bailey Hemann, Bennett Hemann, Colton Jensen, Dashiel Jensen, Raiden Kuntz, Robert Marks, Lily Mayer, Kiersten McRoberts, Toby Newton, Autumn Owen, Laila Rogers, Kaylee Schwarck, Kaylee Streit, Ella Stricker, Kellen Taets and Ezra Weber.
The day camp was organized and led by Susan Ringhofer, Clover Kids Educator, and Roni Kruse, ISU summer assistant. Volunteers who helped with the day camp were Corin Johanns, Gillian Johanns, Matthew Klaes and Anna Miller. The camp was held at the Cedar River Complex Events Center.
On July 13, 19 kindergarten thru third graders participated in the day camp. They Scarlett Byrnes, Lily Callow, Hank Clark, Madalyn Cooper, Ashtyn Cordes, Keagen Cordes, Mya Cordes, Tess Darrow, Garrett Elgin, Brynnlie Havig, Lucas Johanns, Kaycee Kominek, Nolan Martin, Barrett Marzen, Nicholas Messersmith, Hailey Voigt, Hope Voigt, Jaxson Vroom and Aidan Wagner.
The day camp was organized and led by Susan Ringhofer, Clover Kids Educator. Volunteers who helped with the day camp were Corin Johanns, Hanna Mullenbach and Emmi Taets. The camp was held at the Milton R. Owen Nature Center.
On July 20, 2017, 12 youth in kindergarten thru third grade participated in the third and final kitchen day camp. Those attending were Kaitlyn Berg, Jevin Dammen, Drew Freeman, Brooke Irvin, Kylie Johnson, Ethan Peterson, Anna Peterson, Paulina Porisch, Abby Rachut, Kendra Steiert, Amelia Warrington, and Garrett Warrington.
The day camp was organized and led by Susan Ringhofer, Clover Kids Educator and Roni Kruse, ISU summer assistant. The camp was held at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar.
