CLEAR LAKE | More than 600 fishing enthusiasts participated in the annual Yellow Bass Bonanza ice fishing tournament Sunday -- and the big winners didn't catch a single fish.
A total 301 two-member teams participated in the tournament sponsored by Billion Ford of Clear Lake.
The team of Todd Arenholz of Waverly and Rob Gingery of Holland won a $10,000, 2018 Polaris Ranger, who came up empty in fishing, won a drawing that was part of the event.
And they weren't even the first choice, according to Kevan Paul who, along with Chris Choll, organized the tournament.
"You had to be present to win and the first team whose name was drawn was not there. The winners won when a second drawing was done," he said.
The team of Cox/Pifkin won the fishing competition with 30 fish (the limit) at 16.37 pounds. Second place went to the team of Biegler/Brotherson with 30 fish and 16.24 poundes. Third place winner was the team of Sturges/Bills with 30 fish and 16.17 pounds.
Paul said 81 teams caught the full limit and 215 teams caught at least one fish.
