FOREST CITY – Payton Skjeie will continue her athletic career in her hometown as a member of the Waldorf College cheerleading team.

Skjeie, a Forest City High School (FCHS) junior, recently signed a letter of intent with the Warriors.

"Payton has shown some great talent over the past couple of years at FCHS," Waldorf coach Dyanna Quisling said.

A three-year varsity letter winner, Skjeie has been a member of Forest City's state competition squad the past two seasons. With one year remaining in her high school career with the Indians, Skjeie is looking forward to the opportunity to compete at the next level.

"It means that I will be able to continue something I love to do," Skjeie said. "Cheering is what I love to do and knowing that I get to continue it through college makes me ecstatic."

Skjeie is the daughter of Rick and Shelly Skjeie. She is currently undecided on her field of study, but decided to further her education at Waldorf due to the one-on-one relationships she'll be able to build with professors and also the chance to contribute for the Warriors in National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) competition.

"I checked out a bunch of other college cheer programs and I really liked Waldorf's," Skjeie said. "They seemed to have one of the best around. Also, I think the small class sizes will be a plus when starting college."

Skjeie will be a welcomed addition to Waldorf's program when she joins the squad at the beginning of the 2017-18 academic year.

"Payton will be a fantastic flyer for us in the fall of 2017," Quisling said. "I am happy that she decided Waldorf would be her next cheer home and we look forward to flying her as Warrior."
