FOREST CITY | With a strong team of experienced runners and an up-and-coming group of new faces, the Indians want to compete from week to week and in the post-season.

Grady Hovenga, a senior, ran an 18.09 last fall as Forest City's lone representative at the state meet. He'll be running with Ryan Theel, Matthew Petersen, Tanner Greenwood, Jacob Welton, Zach Lehmann, and Seth Gayther — all seniors and returning lettermen.

On the girls side, the team is every bit as deep., Hannah Buffington (Sr.), Thone Golwitzer (Sr.), Morgan Hobbs (Sr.), Carena Lechuga (Sr.), Anna Weaver (Jr.), Lyndee Jones (Soph.), Anna Lehmann (Soph.) and Abigail Wirtjes (Soph.) all lettered in 2016. Buffington ran a 23:08 at the Top of Iowa Conference meet last October.

"We will have a great core coming back on both the boys and girls team along with adding some quality young runners," said coach Scott Jackson. "We hope to continue to improve on a daily basis and have a good showing at the conference and state qualifying meets."
