Both the Forest City boys and girls cross country meets were locked out of the state meet last Thursday as neither pushed a runner through to the state's biggest meet.
Running in a Class 2A state-qualifying meet at Unity Christian, the Forest City boys took home sixth place while the girls were eighth.
In the boys race, Forest City's Grady Hovenga just missed qualifying as an individual as he placed 18th in 17:55.5. The top 15 individuals qualified for state.
Also for the Indians, who scored 162 points, Javin Pedelty was was 29th in 18:41.3, Ryan Theel was 37th in 19:00.5, Matt Petersen placed 40th in 19:10.7, and Zach Lehmann rounded out the scoring in 48th with a time of 19:29.9.
Additionally, Isaac Sand was 52nd (19:38.5) and Caleb Buffington was 55th (19:55.6).
In the girls race, the Indians' Vicky Chen was nine places out of qualifying as she finished 24th in 22:11.
Team-wise, Hannah Buffington came in after Chen with a 29th-place finish in 22:33.2, Hannah Good was 31st in 22:43.4, Anna Lehmann was 39th in 23:09.8, and Anna Weaver was 71st in 24:42.7.
Also, Carena Lechuga was 86th (26:31.1) and Brettin Linder placed 87th (26:36.4).
