The Forest City boys and girls cross country teams kicked off the 2017 season Tuesday, Aug. 29, at Newman Catholic with a pair of good showings. The boys took home fourth place out of 11 teams in the team race with 139 points while the girls were sixth out of 12 with 150.

On the boys side, the Indians' Grady Hovenga churned out a team-best 18th-place finish in 18:38.7, Ryan Theel was 23rd in 18:52.3, Javin Pedelty was 29th in 19:13.2, Zach Lehmann placed 35th in 19:26, and Randy Vaughn rounded out the scoring with a 41st-place finish in 19:38.3.

Additionally, Jacob Welton was 61st (20:51.5) and Calvin Aberg was 70th (22:14.5).

For the girls, Vicky Chen was the Indians top finisher as she grabbed a 14th-place finish in 22:48.4. Hannah Buffington just missed a top-20 finish as she placed 21st in 23:17.3, Hannah Good was 37th in 24:02.5, Anna Lehmann placed 38th in 24:02.9, and Lyndee Jones was 55th in 25:28.4.

Also for the Indians, Anna Weaver placed 64th (25:52.8) and Thone Golwitzer was 74th (27:00.4).
