The Forest City girls and boys cross country teams each enjoyed a solid week in a pair of meet last week.
The boys kicked off the week Tuesday, Sept. 12, with a strong showing at Osage as they finished second place in the team race with 75. Newman won the meet with 18.
Grady Hovenga led the way for Forest City as he secured a Top-10 finish with a ninth-place showing in 19:27. Javin Pedelty and Ryan Theel finished 15th and 16th, respectively. Pedelty clocked in at 19:38 while Theel completed the course in 19:56. Zach Lehmann added a 22nd-place finish in 20:37 and Isaac Sand rounded out the scoring in 28th with a time of 20:45.
For the girls, who placed fourth in the team race, Vicky Chen led the way with a 13th-place finish in 23:26, Hannah Buffington was 23rd in 24:25, Anna Lehmann placed 28th in 24:38, Abby Wirtjes took 35th in 25:16, and Hannah Good was 36th in 25:19.
The girls put forth a solid meet last Thursday night at Clear Lake as they ran to third place with 103 points. Humboldt won the meet with 20.
Chen and Buffington were the Indians’ top runner again as the duo finished 11th and 12th, respectively. Chen clocked in at 23:17 while Buffington was right behind in 23:19.
Lehmann also put forth a Top-20 finish as she took 17th (23:56), Good placed 24th (24:20) and Wirtjes was 39th (25:17).
In a loaded boys race which included three ranked team, Forest City brought home seventh place in the team race.
Hovenga led the way with a 31st-place finish (19:33), Pedelty was 33rd (19:40), Theel took 35th (19:45), Sand was 46th (20:28) and Lehmann took 48th (20:35).
