FOREST CITY | Even after Forest City fell in a Class 3A regional final last year vs. Waverly-Shell Rock, coach Dan Rosacker couldn’t help but be excited for the future.
“I can’t wait for our first game,” Rosacker said minutes after his team bowed out of the 3A tournament at 19-5. “It’s a special group, but there are no guarantees. Like I told (Sam) Snyder, I said 'remember this, because if you play that well against (UNI commit Austin) Phyfe, you can play that well against anybody.'”
Well, that time has just about come for the Indians and they couldn’t be more excited to chase that state berth. This time the chase will come in Class 2A as the Indians dropped back down after last season.
Snyder led the Indians with 15.3 points per game last season and was the Indians’ leading rebounder with 148.
Along with Snyder, the Indians returning their top five scorers. Chris Jermeland averaged 9.7 per game, Grady Hovenga was at 8.2, Ryan Theel averaged 7.1 and Avery Busta 5.6. Theel led the Indians in assists with 96.
The Indians will no doubt have big expectations set on them, and with Garner-Hayfield-Ventura returning a lot of its own to make it tough on the Indians in the TIC West, it’s going to be a battle. The Indians feel they’re ready, though.
