It is my privilege and honor to welcome the State Convention firefighters and their families to Forest City for the 2017 Annual Firefighter’s Association State Convention.
I am a retired 26-year veteran of the Forest City Fire Department. My wife, Barb, and I helped host the 1997 and the 2007 State Fire Conventions in Forest City, and we also attended several other conventions throughout my service on the FCFD. We had a wonderful time at all of them, as we know these firefighters will in 2017.
I am very proud of our host, the Forest City Fire Department. Chief Mark Johnson, the firefighters and their families, have spent many hours planning and working towards the goal of a great and memorable convention. They have planned many wonderful activities for everyone’s enjoyment.
The City Council and I wish everyone safe travel and an enjoyable stay with us. Please visit our new Fire Department Facility when you are here, as it showcases the pride our citizens have for our firefighters. They are a great bunch and highly regarded in our community.
We are looking forward to the contests on the Courthouse Square on Saturday morning, September 9, as well as the parade at 6:30 p.m. later that evening. There will also be City-wide garage sales and other events for the enjoyment of all who attend.
Finally, as Mayor of the City of Forest City, I wish to thank the firefighters for their dedicated service to their Fire Departments, and wish them all the best as they celebrate with the other firefighters at the 2017 Annual Firefighters’s Association State Convention.
Byron ‘Barney’ Ruiter
