To the editor:
In response to the Aug. 28 front page story about a house on South 6th Street owned by Charles Hassel, about him not having a plan aggressive enough (to repair it) for the neighborhood. May I say that house is a palace in comparison to the one across the driveway from us at 715 S. Clark St.
We have tried for most of 10 years to get any response as to what can be done. It should be condemned and removed! It is full of bats, rats, cats, birds and many other unwanted animals. The bat droppings and bird droppings are a health hazard and to say how it smells and looks.
In 1968, I had the bird’s disease that has many side effects. I was tested by our local doctor a year ago and was happy to find out that the virus was no longer in my body. I don’t want it back.
The owner of the property did put some tin over a few holes which slowed (unwanted animals) down for a short time, until they found another hole.
Please give this some serious attention. We have a great neighborhood and we feel one should be as important as the other.
