Thank you to the Forest City Line Department for hanging all the Christmas lights around town. Thanks also to the Forest City Chamber of Commerce for a wonderful Christmas Tree Lighting event on the 27th. This event was well attended, and the Brick Street Theatre provided excellent entertainment.
To march everyone into the Christmas season, the Public Library hosted a Christmas Open House on December 2, and Waldorf University their wonderful Christmas concert at First Baptist Church on December 3. We look forward to the 2017 Forest City Christmas on Saturday, December 9. I hope everyone makes it out to Heritage Park for their Holiday Tour of Lights, which is held from November 24 – December 24. Make sure you check out the Enchanted Forest and vote for your favorite Christmas tree during the Tour. Have a glorious Christmas!
On a less jolly note, it’s time to start the budget process for 2018-19, which will begin on December 11 with a Capital Improvement Plan Workshop. This workshop will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall. Several other meetings will be held in January and February. It is a good process with lots of input from staff, Council and the Public.
I’d like to wish Steve Hanna a happy retirement. I hired Steve on 9/11/76 as a sanitation operator. When he left sanitation, he moved on to a meter reader position and then to the water/wastewater department as a wastewater operator. For the past 30 years, he’s provided invaluable service as Foreman of the Water Department. Your service has been greatly appreciated, Steve!
Again, I wish you all safe travels and a wonderful holiday season.
