2 Corinthians 9:6-9. "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you , so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work as it is written: he has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.?"

Our society is consumer driven. We want things to make life easier, happier and perhaps meaningful. Watch and listen to commercials and it’s all about ME!

The biblical worldview is modeled by Jesus, who says, I have not come to be served but to serve. His outlook and actions were other focused. In others words he gave of himself and what he had to those in need.

God has given each of us a wealth of talent, and resources beyond our needs. We often share or give to those in need, and/or through the local church which in turn is given to ministries beyond what we could do ourselves.

In 2 Corinthians Paul was commending a poor congregation for their sacrificial giving to persecuted Christians in need. That church had every reason not to give due to their poverty, but they gave sacrificially because of their love for God.

That love should be the reason we give to God’s ministry, which begins with our local church. The most difficult thing to give over to God is our money. Let me correct myself, God’s money. Giving to the church you attend is a sacrificial act of worship. It is honoring and giving thanks to God for his provision, whether we have abundance, live on a fixed income or can’t make ends meet. God will and does notice our giving, not simply the amount but our attitude. Don’t give out of guilt, grudgingly or expecting to see a return. Don’t give according to the church budget, unless you can find a verse that says, give only to meet the church budget.

Consider what God has given you and continues to give you on a daily basis. He promises to provide for your every need and as you give he will see to it you will always have more so you can keep giving. Does your giving reflect the amount of love and gratitude you have for God and what he continues to do for you?
