Today, I am going to look at a portion of the New Testament text for Sunday, September 3.
We read in Romans 12:9-16a “Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, and serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another.”
If we want to be Disciples of Christ, we must learn to love each other with genuine love. If you are unable to love your fellow Christian brother or sister, ask God to instill in your heart His love for that person. Then allow Christ to love that person through you.
As we read further, Paul tells us we are to never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit and serve the Lord. To me this means we should have an excitement burning within our minds, heart, and soul to get out and serve the Lord.
It is when we allow God to fill us with the Father’s love and have the assurance of being saved by the shed blood of Jesus Christ our Lord that the power of the Holy Spirit will shine in our lives as we share the Good News of the Gospel with others.
As we allow God into our lives to accomplish His plan for us, we can then walk in unity with our fellow Christian brothers and sisters. We are then able to work with each other to bring the Kingdom of God to others.
Paul then proceeds to give us instruction on how we are to interact with our fellow man. We can only accomplish this by letting Christ live through us.
My challenge for you today is to get excited about your faith, be aglow with the Spirit, and server the Lord by sharing Jesus with others. When you do this you will receive the joy of the Lord.
