Margie J. Trees died November 9, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society – Forest City.

A private family service will be held at a future date with inurnment at Madison Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.

Margie Jane Johnson was born December 8, 1922 on the family farm west of Armstrong, IA to Andrew and Mary (Elliott) Johnson. She graduated from Armstrong High School and Estherville Junior College. After graduation she worked at First Trust and Savings in Armstrong and married Marvin A. Trees on June 8, 1947.

The couple lived in Nevada, IA and Ringsted, IA until moving to Forest City in 1954, where together they owned and operated Home Lumber Company.

Margie volunteered in various organizations while living in Forest City and was especially proud of her involvement on boards for Winnebago County Handicapped Services and the development of the Frandsen Residential Care Facility. Margie also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels.

Margie enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, and bowling, collecting antiques, crocheting and was an avid reader. She enjoyed watching sports of any kind, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings and New York Yankees.

After retirement, in 1987 Margie and Marvin bought a home on Upper Hay Lake near Pequot Lakes, MN. The couple enjoyed 14 years together on the lake until Marvin died in 2001. Margie was active at Our Saviors Church in Pequot Lakes and enjoyed volunteering at the community library there also. She returned to Forest City in 2007.

Margie is survived by her 5 children, Mark (Roxanne Tuomi) East Gull Lake, MN; Marion (Rhonda) Mankato, MN; Marty (Lona) Forest City; Mary Kingland (Marvin) Hanlontown; Marshall (Mary) Plymouth, MN. 9 grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 3 siblings; Chris Johnson, Ermal Kirkwood and Lloyd Johnson.

The family would like to thank Good Samaritan for the many years of good care their mother and grandmother received there and to Hospice of North Iowa for the care they helped provide at Good Samaritan the last few weeks.
