FOREST CITY | The applicant for a hog confinement construction permit south of Buffalo Center rejected by the Winnebago County Board of Supervisors is trying again at a new location.
A public hearing on the proposed new site is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. March 13 in the supervisors' meeting room at the Winnebago County Courthouse in Forest City.
Last month the supervisors rejected the permit presented by 1 pigE, LLC, for two 2,499-head deep pit swine finisher confinement buildings off 380th Street west of 20th Avenue after concerns about the site were expressed during a public hearing.
Supervisor Bill Jensvold said 1 pigE is now proposing a site slightly to the north so the well will be farther away from the county right-of-way and to make sure there's enough room for the truck turnaround.
The supervisors also have set a public hearing for 10 a.m. on March 13 on an application from Eden 21 Site for a construction permit for a proposed hog confinement operation in Eden Township southeast of Rake.
The operation would consist of roughly the same number of hogs as the proposed 1 pigE operation.
Supervisor Mike Stensrud said he hasn't heard any objections from the public on this site.
