FOREST CITY | The annual Forest City Shop with a Cop event was held Dec. 10.

Law enforcement officials from Winnebago County helped kids do their Christmas shopping at Shopko.

Forest City Rotarians wrapped the gifts the children chose.

The Shopko Foundation contributed $1,000 toward Shop with a Cop. The Forest City Rotary Club matched that amount. The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department received donations from the community for the shopping expedition and contributed those toward the effort.

Rotarians Mark Skaar and Scott Meinders were co-chairmen for the event.

Skaar said Shop with a Cop gives children an opportunity to interact in a positive way with law enforcement.

The Rotary Club does a lot of service projects throughout the year, but Shop with a Cop is one of the biggest, according to Skaar.

"It's very, very gratifying," he said.

A more in-depth feature including photos, on this event, will appear in the Dec. 20 issue of the Summit.
