FOREST CITY | The council chamber at City Hall won't be used for a while due to flood damage caused by a frozen drain pipe.
The Feb. 19 City Council meeting had to be moved to the Economic Development/Chamber of Commerce boardroom in the Cooper Building due to the flooding, which was discovered earlier in the day.
City Hall was closed on Feb. 19 because of Presidents Day. City Administrator Barb Smith said the flooding wasn't discovered until 2 p.m. when an employee stopped by.
"It was like a waterfall," Smith said.
The flood was caused by a plugged drain pipe in the attic that froze, thawed and froze again, according to Smith.
The ceiling, walls, chairs and council table were all damaged.
The pipe has been repaired but council meetings probably will take place in the Cooper Building or the Police Station for the next few months due to the damage, Smith said.
